Bavaria, Germany

A new AgNUE supersite in southern Germany representing intensively managed Central European cereal rotations.

Status:
New complete supersite

Lead institution: Karlsruhe Institute of Technology

Soil type:
Fertile cambisols

Supersite lead:
Ralf Kiese

Why the supersite?

The Germany supersite will help AgNUE understand nitrogen use efficiency and nitrogen losses under Central European cropping conditions. Located in Bavaria, the site represents fertile Cambisol soils, diversified cereal rotations and intensively managed agriculture typical of the region. It is especially relevant for testing how reduced nitrogen inputs, nitrification inhibitors, slow-release fertilisers and split applications can reduce nitrogen losses while maintaining productive cropping systems.
